The advice I wish someone had given me before having a kid

"A friend invited me to a baby shower the other day, and they were organizing something special for the mom-to-be. It involved writing down a special word for her to embrace while she was still expecting. I chose the word 'Remember.'

I chose 'Remember' because we need to remember ourselves after bringing a little human into this world. That's one of the things I missed after becoming a mom, especially in the first few years. And I am not saying that it is bad to focus on our kids, nurture them, and love them. I am just saying, DO NOT forget about yourself.

If you are a mom, I am not sure what that little thing is that makes you, YOU. But try to make some room for it, at least once per week. Remember that you are a mother and a human being. Maybe take 5 minutes a day to pray, to read. Grab a cup of coffee with that special friend or finally get your nails done! There is always time for the things and people that matter to us. Let's make time for ourselves, too!

And, remember...

"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace." Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (NIV)

With love,

Nati
